MARRIAGE THERAPY

Marriage Therapy

Marriage was designed by God to be a beautiful representation of love with emotional, physical, and spiritual unity, but, too often, marriages become a source of tension, conflict, and emotional pain. Marital therapy provides a setting and path for couples to communicate effectively, resolve their differences, and discover or re-discover emotional and physical intimacy.

It is our practice to be marriage advocates without choosing one “side” versus the other. We recognize that marriage is comprised of two individuals and their interaction. Marital therapy explores the sources of disharmony within that system and generates solutions rather than simply placing blame. We also understand that a variety of factors, including individual issues, previous experiences, extended family and in-laws, parenting differences, finances, and illness can profoundly affect marital functioning.

Marital therapy requires commitment to the marriage and commitment to personal integrity by both spouses in order to succeed. Communication, as will as principles of mutual respect, personal responsibility, forgiveness, and reconciliation are also essential components in treatment.

Goals for Marriage Therapy Include:

1.     Conflict resolution.

2.     Emotional, physical, and spiritual harmony.

3.     Respect for both individual’s needs within the marital relationship.

4.     Enhanced communication and problem solving skills.
